Well, buckle up Compa (slang for friend). We are not quite done with the year just yet. On December 28th we remember:
Día De los Santos Inocentes
Holy Innocents' Day
If you ever tried to prank your hispanic friend on April Fool’s day,( just fun and harmless pranks of course, you are not a savage) , you may have encountered yourself with a blank stare as you jolly say "April fools” !
Not your fault, we prank our dear ones (and some) on Dec. 28th, for very sad reasons you might not want to know, you do want to know? ok...
Tradition says when Jesus was just a newborn. A group of Magi, (the 3 wise men) went to see “Herod the Great” (who was ruling on Judea), to ask him about “The new king born in Bethlehem”. Herod was not thrilled with the idea of a competitor.So he decided to eliminate the competition by ordering the killing of every male under the age of 2. In honor of those Innocent Souls , we remember the 28th of December as: Dia de Santos Inocentes.
As we say in Spanish: Te lo dije (I told you so).
Moving on. Posting a fake engagement photo on your socials, or announcing a big career change can be used as good Inocentada (Holy innocents’ day prank) , Just make sure to finish it with:
¡Inocente Palomita!
Basically “Gotcha”!
which can be translated to: Innocent little dove
